Edward Hines Lumber Co. would like to inform you of some of the efforts we are making to improve our environment. Edward Hines Lumber Co. embraces responsible management of our resources. Through the efforts of industry groups such as the United States Green Building Council, there is a growing trend toward sustainable design, which is synonymous with "green building." This demand is evident in specifications calling for building products and materials made from wood that has been certified as having been produced in an environmentally responsible manner.

Sustainable design includes the efficient use of natural resources, including products originating in forests that have been certified sustainably well-managed by an independent third-party certification organization. The Forest Stewardship Council is an independent, non-profit organization that promotes the responsible management of the world's working forests thru the development of forest management standards, a voluntary certification system, and trademarks that provide recognition and value to products bearing the FSC label in the marketplace.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification has become the system of choice for many architects specifying certified wood products. Under this system independent third-party certifiers, accredited by the FSC, conduct comprehensive assessments of forest operations against three main standards: environmental responsible, social benefits and economic viability of forest management.

Designers are encouraged to use FSC-certified wood products and are eligible for credits under both the U. S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) system and by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineer's Sustainable Project Rating Tool (SPiRiT).

We are pleased to announce our North Chicago Branch has a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified chain of custody certificate. Our number is CSC-COC-00791.
