Hines Lumber offers a variety of plywood options to meet the needs of any size project. Plywood is a type of manufactuered timber made from thin sheets of wood veneer. As one of the most commonly used wood products, it is flexible, affordable, reusable and can be locally manufactured. Due to its strength, plywood is used instead of standard wood because it holds up against cracking, shrinking and warping.
The layers in plywood are called veneers, which are glued together with adjacent piles having the grains at right angles to each other for greater strength. Typically there are an odd number of piles so that the sheet is balanced, which helps to reduce warping.
Plywood layers (called veneers) are glued together with the grains running against each other for greater strength. There is usually an odd number of plies so that the sheet is balanced—this reduces warping. Because of the way plywood is bonded it is very hard to bend it perpendicular to the grain direction.
